*PLEASE NOTE* The racing lines and simulations shown here are based on a simplified analysis that does not incorporate 3D effects such as camber and elevation, track irregularities, or surface conditions. It assumes perfect grip and perfect pilot control. Always temper your approach to a racetrack with common sense and an awareness of your skill level. Be safe out there!

Lap Times Explained

Each column represents a vehicle driven on different racing lines. For example, the first row of the first column is the time for the Miata driven on its own line. The second row represents the Miata driven on the Porsche's racing line, and so on. It is expected that when a vehicle is driven on its own line (large font) the lap time will be the quickest. Otherwise, Al has not done his job very well.

The Racing Line at Utah Motorsports Campus - Outer Circuit

The Outer Loop at Utah Motorsports Campus brings the turn count down to a reasonable number by connecting Right Hook/Knockout to the Attitudes. The new turn that is created is Witchcraft, which is a bit bumpy but can be taken very fast, although higher powered vehicles will have to brake down for it. In the Attitudes, many drivers can make up a bit of time by getting on the throttle earlier (out of 9 for low powered vehicles and 10 for high powered ones) and ensuring full use of the track on the exit from Bad Attitude.

The other time trap that many pilots fall into is going too slow through Turn 13 and staying mid-track in preparation for Wind Up. It's actually fastest to carry as much speed as possible through 13, using the full track on the exit. Then, depending how much time you have, you can work back left to set up for Turn 14.

Founder's Notes

Great view from this camera angle. I think if the driver would smooth out his corner entries, turning in more gradually with more trail braking, the lap times would reap the benefits.

Founder's Notes

Nice job at Turn 13 - that's the way to do it!

Corvette versus Porsches MPRA Race

Founder's Notes

The Porsche at the end of the video really hooks it up on corner exits.

Founder's Notes

Yeah, yeah, the music. The lines are awesome, though.

Onboard Porsche RS Spyder

Founder's Notes

Notice the tight lines through Turns 1, 3, 5, and 14, in particular.
