*PLEASE NOTE* The racing lines and simulations shown here are based on a simplified analysis that does not incorporate 3D effects such as camber and elevation, track irregularities, or surface conditions. It assumes perfect grip and perfect pilot control. Always temper your approach to a racetrack with common sense and an awareness of your skill level. Be safe out there!

Lap Times Explained

Each column represents a vehicle driven on different racing lines. For example, the first row of the first column is the time for the Miata driven on its own line. The second row represents the Miata driven on the Porsche's racing line, and so on. It is expected that when a vehicle is driven on its own line (large font) the lap time will be the quickest. Otherwise, Al has not done his job very well.

The Racing Line at Eagles Canyon Raceway

Composed almost entirely of straight lines and right angles, Eagles Canyon Raceway creates a distinct track experience, with the help of a couple swooping elevation changes. Located an hour northwest of Dallas, this facility offers track days individually as well as via their membership programs, and hosts events for a variety of competitive organizations.

Although certainly a blast to ride and drive, the angular nature of Eagles Canyon limits the variation between the racing line for different vehicle types. For most of the corners, it's best to hit the first apex, then drive to the outside edge of the track before closing in on the second apex. Two exceptions are Turns 6 (for the Miata only) and 10. The Miata is also slightly inside of the outer edge in Turn 11. After exiting Turn 9, some drivers try to get back too far to the left in order to set up for 10. Instead, drive straight at 10, and take a shallow double apex, and a slightly deeper one for higher powered vehicles.

Founder's Notes

Very nice driving. Stickier tires may need to be in order to get below the Miata benchmark.

Porsche 997 GT3 and 993 C2

Founder's Notes

Good stuff. No other comments.

Founder's Notes

Heckuva ride, Danny! Let it not be said that our "Optimal" lap times are too ambitious; Danny is riding a good 1-2 seconds faster than the Al's Motorcycle, which is awesome. It's hard to tell if he's making it all the way to the outside on many of these turns, but you should come close. Particularly in Turn 4, he might be able to carry a bit more speed, and in so doing set up a better drive out of 5 by entering from closer to the outside.

Founder's Notes

A saner pace and better view in this Moto clip. My condolences about the offtrack excursion.
